Filip Helander gets Euro 2020 reward as Rangers star joins ex-Celtic defender in Sweden squad

Rangers star Filip Helander has been rewarded for his superb season with a place in Sweden's squad for Euro 2020.

The centre back is joined by former Celtic defender Mikael Lustig in the 26 man squad, as well as Jordan Larsson, the son of Celtic legend Henrik.

Sweden have named a strong squad for the tournament but are without Zlatan Ibrahimovic after the AC Milan striker picked up a knee injury.

Helander hasn't played since the Scottish Cup quarter final defeat to St Johnstone when he picked up an injury with Steven Gerrard deciding not to risk him in the final games.

With the Euros on the horizon, Gerrard and Rangers decided it would be safer to keep Helander wrapped in cotton wool to ensure he was fit for the tournament.

He's picked up 15 caps for his country so far with the last of those coming against Kosovo in March, one of four appearances he’s made for Sweden this season.

Sweden start their tournament with a clash against Spain on June 14 before facing Slovakia four days later, and then Poland in their final clash.

Helander enjoyed a strong season with Rangers and continued his incredible record of never losing a league game for the club.

He played 22 times in the Premiership and managed to avoid defeat in every one of this season, adding to the eight he never lost in last season before injury ended his campaign in November 2019.
