Filip Helander fee confirmed as Rangers set to complete move for defender

Rino Gattuso insists Rangers have landed a bargain in Filip Helander as the defender prepares to complete a £4million move from Bologna.

Former Milan boss Gattuso spoke exclusively to Record Sport after we revealed Swede Helander was on the brink of becoming Steven Gerrard’s eighth summer signing.

It’s understood the 26-year-old was undergoing a medical on Thursday night and should put pen to paper on a four-year contract today – with reports in Italy claiming Rangers may have agreed to shell out almost £6m over the next two years in order to get the deal over the line.

But we understand Helander’s price tag is closer to the £3.5m valuation Rangers originally set aside to snap up the 6ft 4in stopper.

And Gattuso believes his old club may have saved themselves a small fortune.

Speaking from a family holiday in Spain, the former Ibrox hero said: “I heard from Italy the price is around 5m Euros – and that’s a good price for him.

“It’s big money for Rangers but he’s a good player at that price when you consider the market at this moment.

"It’s incredible some players are costing 50m, 55m Euros. Rangers have done good business.”

Ryan Kent started for Liverpool last night in their friendly against Tranmere. Rangers, keen to bring back the winger for a second spell, are understood to have first option on Kent should he be allowed to go on loan again  but Liverpool could be tempted to sell.
