Filip Helander attracting Rangers transfer suitors as Aston Villa 'chase' Sweden defender

Rangers defender Filip Helander is reportedly attracting interest from a number of top flight clubs down south who are interested in a summer move.

The 27-year-old, currently away with national side Sweden, is catching the eye of several English Premier League clubs, according to media in his homeland.

Sportbladet claim Brendan Rodgers' Leicester City and Aston Villa are among the centre-back's admirers.

And they also believe that he could be replaced with a star from the Swedish top flight in Elfsborg's Joseph Okumu.

Kenyan international Okumu, 23, is said to be nearing an exit from the Allsvenskan and Steven Gerrard's side, the outlet claims, are "one of a long line of clubs interested".

Helander is a key component of the Sweden side, who like Scotland are heading for Euro 2020 and got off to a winning start in their World Cup 2022 qualification campaign with a 1-0 win over Georgia.

Manager Janne Andersson said: "Filip Helander is doing well. He wins duels and is quite stable."

Helander signed for Rangers in the summer of 2019 from Serie A side Bologna.

Injuries stunted his first season in Glasgow but he played an important role this term as Steven Gerrard's men clinched the Scottish Premiership crown.
