Filip Benkovic in Celtic 'talks' as Neil Lennon makes move for Leicester City defender

Celtic are reportedly in talks with Leicester City to sign defender Filip Benkovic.

Brendan Rodgers revealed on Thursday the Premier League side would be willing to send the Croatian back to Parkhead for the remainder of the season as he looks for first team football.

And Sky Sports are reporting the Hoops have opened discussions with the Foxes over a potential switch.

Celtic would prefer a loan deal, with an option to buy, for Benkovic and Leciester would consider selling the centre-half for the right price.

Neil Lennon is on the lookout for a centre-back with Christopher Jullien on the sidelines for at least four months.

And Benkovic looks to be the perfect candidate after his impressive first spell in Glasgow, especially after Rodgers gave his blessing.

He said: "It's certainly a possibility. It's a huge club and he did very well there. We haven't had any contact but he's back now and we will see what happens.

“Celtic would be a great move for him. He's at the age where he really needs to be playing and that didn't quite materialise at Cardiff.

“I would never blame another manager for not playing someone because circumstances can change all the time but unfortunately it didn't work out.

“It's quite simple really, it's now a case of finding somewhere where he can go next and get some game time.”
