Figures show the 10 areas of West Dunbartonshire where Covid-19 is suppressed

West Dunbartonshire has one of Scotland’s lowest Covid-19 infection rates, with the virus now suppressed in 10 local neighbourhoods.

Just a month ago the locality was considered one of the country’s Covid hotspots, however rates have plummeted in recent weeks - with West Dunbartonshire now recording seven day rates of 43.9 cases per 100,000, well below the national average of 73 per 100,000.

Public Health Scotland data shows that the virus is now classed as ‘suppressed’ (where less than three positive cases have been recorded over seven days) in 10 areas.

These are Balloch, Bowling, Bonhill, Alexandria, Dumbarton East, Dalreoch and Lomond, as well as Clydebank North, Dalmuir and Duntocher.

Only three areas locally showed a rise in cases over the last week, with Kilpatrick now the worst hit locally with a rate of 82.4 cases per 100,000. Across West Dunbartonshire generally however Clydebank’s rate of 155.4 is the highest recorded.

Leven and Dumbarton also showed a number of cases over the seven days to March 12, with four cases recorded in Leven (a rate of 80 per 100,000) and three in Dumbarton giving it a rate of 42.5 per 100,000.

West Dunbartonshire’s test positivity remains extremely low, at just 1.9 percent, with the national average sitting at 3.3 percent. The World Health Organisation states that any figure below five percent means that the virus is under control.

FM Nicola Sturgeon is set to outline more detail about Scotland’s route map out of lockdown during an address to Holyrood tomorrow afternoon.
