Yuzuru Hanyu, the two-time Olympic gold medalist figure skater, has supervised the development of music boxes that play songs he performed to at the last Winter Games.

Nidec Sankyo Corp., one of the world's leading manufacturers of music boxes, will begin sales on Wednesday of the new music boxes. The boxes come in glass for 45,000 yen (about 400 dollars), designed like a jewelry case for 14,000 yen and in the shape of a palm-sized bag for 2,200 yen. All prices exclude tax.

There are two versions of each design, playing either Chopin's "Ballade No. 1," used for Hanyu's short program at the Pyeongchang Olympic Games, or "Seimei," used for his free program.

Images of Hanyu and his autograph are printed on the surface of the music boxes.

Nidec Sankyo, based in Shimosuwa, Nagano Prefecture, is affiliated with Nana Takagi, who won two gold medals in women's speed skating at the Pyeongchang Games. The company pitched the project to Hanyu, who agreed readily.

Advanced orders for the music boxes began on Oct. 11 through Nidec Sankyo's website.
