A new three-year partnership between Unilever and the European Federation of Food Banks (FEBA) will bring food to more people in need while reducing the amount of food that is thrown away across Europe.
The new partnership builds on existing relationships with European food banks, which in 2013 provided the equivalent of more than 3m meals a year in 13 countries.
Under the new terms Unilever will enhance its product donations in participating countries, with employee volunteers supporting the collection and distribution of food. The Unilever Foundation will also make a €100,000 (£78,366) annual contribution to help develop new food banks in eastern and southern Europe.
The FEBA partnership is part of a wider commitment from Unilever to fight hunger and support deprived communities around the world. In Europe, we are also working in partnership with Oxfam to support the setting up of new community food banks and the redistribution of surplus food in the UK. In the US, we support Feeding America, the leading domestic hunger relief charity, and its nationwide network of food banks in the fight against hunger.
