A fight that spilled out in Nottingham city centre showed a 'pack mentality' after a night out, detectives have said.
Footage captured on CCTV and a mobile phone showed a series of altercations break out involving a man and other men from different groups in Clumber Street at around 4.30am on November 11, 2018.
A man was seen getting in a taxi before another man came over to the vehicle and spat at him. The man then got out of the taxi before being punched and kicked repeatedly by several men as the fight spilled out across the road.
The man continued to be attacked, even as he lay on the ground.
Jaysaniel Grant, 21, of Stockhill Lane, Basford, Nottingham; Cole Lambert, 19, of Gorman Court, Arnold; Tyrique Richards, 21, of Drayman's Court, New Basford; and Morgan Furnell, 19, of Askeby Drive, Strelley, were identified as a result of a media appeal and pleaded guilty to affray.
Kerryn Wholey, 24, of Ring Leas, Cotgrave, was also charged in connection with the incident and pleaded guilty to violent behaviour.
Four of the men were sentenced at Nottingham Crown Court on Thursday (July 9).
Grant and Richards were given a 12-month sentence, suspended for 18 months, and Lambert and Furnell both received 10 months in a detention centre, suspended for 18 months. Wholey is to be sentenced on August 14.
Detective Sergeant Simon Carter, of Nottinghamshire Police, said: "This case really shows pack mentality and how people can get caught up in the moment following a night out and behave in a way they wouldn't normally.
"The men weren't all known to each other but followed each other in getting involved.
"Thankfully the man most seriously injured only suffered cuts, bruises and swelling and has made a full recovery but now they all have a criminal record and the incident will stay with them for life.
"It’s a message to all that we won't tolerate violence and public order incidents in Nottinghamshire."
