DETROIT _ A fight at a Flint liquor store broke out after a security guard kept a man out of the store to abide by capacity limits to prevent the spread of COVID-19.
A security guard at Carpenter Road Liquor in Flint and a customer got into a fight over the number of customers allowed in the store, police said.
The fight broke out over the enforcement of Gov. Gretchen Whitmer's order to limit the number of customers in a store based on the square footage of the business, police said.
The customer reportedly hit the security guard several times before the security guard pulled out his weapon. When the customer went to strike the guard again, the gun was fired a single time. The bullet ricocheted off the ground and hit the man in the ankle.
The customer was transported to a local hospital and is in good condition. Michigan State Police and Flint Police are involved in the ongoing investigation.
The incident is one in a string of retaliations against the governor's orders put in place to prevent further spread of the coronavirus. Calvin Munerlyn, security guard at a Family Dollar in Flint, was killed after turning a woman away when she tried to bring her daughter into the store without a mask.
