Fifth arrest as investigations into alleged Hunter break-ins continues

Another teenager has been charged as part of an investigation into a string of alleged break and enters in the Lower Hunter region since April.

Port Stephens-Hunter Police District detectives established Operation Golding to investigate the alleged crimes in the Maitland, Rutherford and Aberglasslyn areas.

Following investigations, officers attached to the Proactive Crime Team arrested a 15-year-old boy at a house in Maitland in recent days.

He was taken to Maitland Police Station and charged with aggravated break and enter.

Police will allege the teen was involved in a break and enter at a Rutherford business on June 22, when a number of items including drinks and cash were stolen.

He was granted conditional bail to appear at a children's court at a later date, police said at the weekend.

The charge was the latest in five arrests made in the past week as part of Operation Golding.

Police said in a statement that detectives expected to make further arrests as the investigation continued.
