Fifteenth resident dies at Stanley Park Care Home after showing coronavirus symptoms

A fifteenth resident has died at a County Durham care home after showing coronavirus symptoms.

Care UK, which operates the facility, has confirmed the death of another resident at Stanley Park Care Home.

The company has previously said that although all have shown symptoms of coronavirus, only one person has tested positive for the virus in hospital.

The Stanley care home is one of the worst affected by the coronavirus outbreak in the UK.

Regional director Karen Morrison said: “It is with great regret that I have to say another resident has passed away after showing symptoms that might indicate coronavirus.

“Their family has been informed and we would like to send our condolences to them and others who have lost someone at this sad time.”

Ms Morrison previously said staff are doing everything they can to to keep people safe and comfortable, with staff having access to all the necessary PPE.

Doting grandma Barbara Wells, 96, is one of the residents who tragically died at the care home.

Her granddaughter Elys Poppy, 47, praised staff at the care home and said they would be grieving too.

An emotional Vera Lynn tribute concert was held outside the care home on Friday for carers and residents.

Deborah Taylor-Smith sang classics such as Somewhere Over The Rainbow and The White Cliffs of Dover to

Residents watched the morale-boosting hour-long set from inside the home or on a balcony, with some even signing and dancing with their carers.
