Fifita faces NRL ban over high tackle

David Fifita is set to miss Gold Coast's bumper Magic Round clash with Penrith unless he can beat a high tackle charge at the NRL judiciary.

Fifita was issued with a grade-two charge for his shot on Wests Tigers five-eighth Adam Doueihi, meaning he will miss at least one game for the incident.

If he tries to fight it and is unsuccessful that ban will double to two games.

The Titans did at least receive some good news with Tyrone Peachey able to accept a fine for dangerous contact on Joe Ofahengaue.

But the Fifita news will frustrate Gold Coast officials, who believe it was sin-bin sufficient when the hulking second-rower stuck his arm out and collected Doueihi.

"Dave, I honestly thought reflex action. He got 10 in the bin," coach Justin Holbrook said after the match.

"It didn't hurt him (Doueihi) all which is good. But I think he should be fine."

Elsewhere, Matt Lodge and Mitchell Dunn both faces fines for their role in a melee just before halftime in Brisbane's loss to North Queensland.

Coen Hess, meanwhile, escaped a charge altogether for a lifting tackle on Lodge, as did teammate Murray Taulagi for an apparent shoulder charge later in the game.
