Firefighter gym owner heartbroken after roof cave-in causes thousands of pounds of flooding damage

A gym in Fife that helps the local community has been left with 'thousands of pounds' worth of damage after water poured in through the roof causing the facility to flood.

Popular gym Fife Martial Arts and Fitness Academy is a family-friendly non-profit gym in Glenrothes which teaches Brazilian Jui Jitsu, Muay Thai, boxing and fitness to locals.

Both children and adults attend the gym 'to support their physical and mental health' but owner Jamie Henderson was left heartbroken when a severe thunderstorm on August 11 caused the roof to cave in.

Head coaches at the gym Jamie and Vikki had organised thousands of pounds worth of renovations in order to get the gym ready on time for 31 August, but when the storm struck all of their hard work was 'destroyed.'

The region of Fife was badly affected by thunderstorms that took place earlier this month and even a hospital car park was left completely flooded, with cars underwater.

Now the gym, which is run solely by passionate volunteers, has been left half-finished due to the severe flood damage.

A flood appeal that has been launched online has already raised £610 for the struggling gym.

Owner Jamie who juggles running the gym with his full-time job as a firefighter said: " I honestly can't put into words the appreciation we have to everyone who has rallied round and helped us bounce back from the gym being flooded.

"Massive thank you to everyone who came down and helped.

"Still a lot of work to do and we are still awaiting the insurance assessor for the other side of the gym to visit but we are working as fast as we can in hope that we can get the gym opened on time for the restrictions being lifted."

If you wish to donate to the gym, you can do so here.
