Fife schoolboy left shocked after opening Irn-Bru to find liquid clear and not iconic orange

A Fife schoolboy was left in shock when he poured a "one in a million" can of Irn-Bru.

Jarvis Morrison Sweeney, from Dunfermline, had grabbed a can on Sunday but was surprised to find it poured completely clear, reports the Daily Record.

A far cry from the iconic orange colour associated with Scotland's national fizzy drink, the 11-year-old and his mum were left dumbfounded.

He said: "I thought to myself 'what the hell is going on here?'

"I was surprised and confused.

"It looked like sparkling water. I still had a drink of it though because I wanted to see what it tasted like."

His mum Alana Maxwell said that, bizarrely, the drink still smelled and tasted like Irn-Bru.

Alana, who runs the Auld Mill House Hotel, said: "I had just bought the case of Sugar Free Irn-Bru from Bookers Cash and Carry a few days before so I knew it was definitely still in date.

"We couldn't believe it when we seen it. Jarvis was loving it. It gave us some much needed entetainment.

"All these years I've thought  Irn-Bru  got it's famous colouring from girders and now this has happened.

"Is it really just colouring they add? The mind boggles."

Irn-Bru bosses have dubbed the youngster's find "a one in a million can" and have sent him some freebies to apologise for the confusion

A spokesperson from Irn-Bru said: "Young Jarvis has a one in a million can right there - it's very rare to get a clear can of IRN-BRU.

"We'll be sending Javis' family a few cases of IRN-BRU Sugar Free to thank them for telling us."
