Fife's famous 'Tesco cat' piles on the pounds after snacking on customers' Pringles

Fife's famous 'Tesco cat' has been piling on the pounds snacking on customers' Pringles.

The nine-year-old moggie called Spartacus has made the Dunfermline Tesco Extra store his second home in recent years.

He's been hanging out there enough to earn the nickname 'Tesco cat' and can often be seen lying in the foyer trying to get shoppers to scratch his tummy or give him some crisps.

His owner Nicola Macpherson (33) lives just around the corner from the store and believes Spartacus started spending more time there when her toddler son Hamish, now aged three, was born.

She said: "Hamish would love to play with him but Spartacus never wants to spend time with him.

"I think he must not like the attention being on Hamish.

"He thinks Tesco is his home, all he has to do is jump over a fence to get there.

"He goes there for about 6am every day and returns home at around 10pm.

"Everyone seems to love him and he gets hugs from people and they also offer him food.

"My husband and I have friends who go to the store and they always send us messages showing us what he is up to."

She added: "He gets fed all sorts, even Pringles, and he is now overweight.

"He doesn't seem to follow any rules, he just does what he wants. He's out all day and comes back at night, I think it's all crazy.

"But he has always been a funny character."
