Fife police hunt black 4x4 driver involved in horror smash on A92 near Cowdenbeath

Police in Fife are searching for the whereabouts of a car involved in a fatal smash on the A92 near the Cowdenbeath junction.

Driver John King, 63, from Ballingry, Fife, died at the scene on Saturday evening (12 September 2020).

Two boys, aged 12 and one, were also injured and were taken to the Victoria Hospital in Kirkcaldy for observation.

Despite initially being called to reports of a one-vehicle crash, Fife officers now know the red Vauxhall Meriva John was driving and a black 4x4 collided before his car toppled over at 9.55pm.

Inspector Andy Mather, of Fife Road Policing, said: "We have now established that another vehicle collided with the Vauxhall prior to it leaving the road.

"Inquires are ongoing to confirm the other vehicle involved and identify the driver."

Officers are appealing for anyone travelling in Cowdenbeath and Lochgelly or on the A92 dual carriageway around 9pm to 10pm on Saturday to come forward.

They also want to hear from anyone who saw a black 4x4 in the area around that time.

Inspector Andy Mather added: "Anyone who may have dashcam footage from the time is asked to review this and pass on anything which may be of note."

Any information can be passed to police by calling 101, quoting incident 3941 of 12 September or by contacting Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
