Fife firm wins £3 million deal to fit out and kit out school campus

Dunfermline firm Deanestor has secured a £3 million contract to supply furniture and equipment and fit out the new Inverurie Community Campus.

It is the company's biggest deal yet in the education sector and its third for main contractor Robertson .

The £55 million project for Aberdeenshire Council is being delivered by community infrastructure company hub North Scotland and will accommodate 1,600 pupils.

When completed early in 2020, it will provide a amenities for the community, including a youth café, community centre, six-lane swimming pool, hydrotherapy pool, and other sports facilities.

Designed by architects Halliday Fraser Munro , the campus will also be home to St Andrews School for children with special educational needs.

Deanestor will furnish and fit out 360 rooms in 26 weeks, including science, food and design technology departments, specialist SEN facilities, general teaching spaces, sports and changing areas, reception, library and offices.

The firm will make and fit furniture for the campus, including 1,950 metres of shelving, 670 metres of laminate and laboratory worktops, 400 base and wall storage units, bag stores, over 80 teaching walls, and more than 500 items of metalwork. Sixty serviced units with power, data or water supplies are being designed and manufactured by Deanestor for the laboratories.

Iain Loud, senior design manager at Robertson, said, “Deanestor met all our requirements for quality, cost, experience and strong financial stability. This is a fast-track project which needs an open and collaborative approach.

“Deanestor’s furniture and fitting-out contract at Bertha Park School in Perth, which is nearing completion, has gone very well and feedback about their site team has been hugely positive to date. Their design team has been terrific, very committed and happy to go above and beyond when needed to meet client needs.”

Deanestor is also supplying and installing tables and chairs, retractable seating for a performance studio, 375 locker units, soft seating, changing facilities, mirrors, teaching aids, sinks and around 100 white goods.

The deal also includes machinery for craft, design and technology; sports equipment and fitness machines to sensory items for the SEN school such as padded walls and floors, fibre optics, ball pit, trampolines and a water bed.
