Fife dad to run epic 49 miles in Spider-Man costume raising cash for Edinburgh's Sick Kids hospital

A brave Fife dad is preparing to run an epic 49 miles to raise thousands of pounds for charity.

Dave Roper has become a local legend in Dunfermline, where he spread cheer during lockdown by running through the streets dressed as Spider-Man.

Known locally as "Duloch's Spider-Man", the 36-year-old has already raised thousands of pounds for his son's school and the Sick Kids.

But the dedicated ex-solider is taking on yet another challenge - this time he will run a whopping 49 miles from Edinburgh to Glasgow in full costume.

Dave will set off on Sunday from Edinburgh’s Sick Kids hospital to the Royal Hospital for Children in Glasgow, to raise money for both Edinburgh Children's Hospital Charity and Glasgow Children's Hospital Charity.

ECHC provides essential support Edinburgh's Sick Kids hospital, as well as other Scottish healthcare settings, to transform children and young people's hospital experience.

The money raised by Dave will be split equally between the two charities.

While he may have now run over 700 miles in costume, this is set to be his biggest challenge yet and he admitted that he was feeling "nervous and excited".

He said: “Taking part in the run from Dunfermline to the Sick Kids for Lap the Map was one of the most rewarding things I’ve ever done.

"Since then, I’ve been racking my brains to think how I could top it and challenge myself further.

“I’ve never run more than 26.2 miles before so I didn’t make the decision lightly. At some point my body will be exhausted but I’ll push through it.

"I am nervous but also really looking forward to it!"

Dave has already raised £2,536 and you can donate to help him meet his target here.
