FIFA world rankings - where are England and Italy ahead of Euro 2020 final?

On Sunday evening, two of the biggest footballing nations in the world will collide as England take on Italy in the Euro 2020 final.

Gareth Southgate's men are looking to win the country's first major tournament since the 1966 World Cup, while Italy are looking to lift their first trophy since the 2006 World Cup.

Despite their success in the tournament, both England and Italy are not rated as the two best European countries in FIFA's latest world rankings.

That honour goes to Belgium and France, who are ranked No 1 and 2 respectively in world football.

Brazil who contend this weekend's Copa America final against Argentina are No 3, with England coming in at No 4.

The FIFA rankings uses a points system, which awards points based on the results of all FIFA-recognised international matches.

More points are awarded for games of higher importance such as the European Championships, with only matches in the World Cup being awarded more points.

Should England win on Sunday, they would stand a good chance of topping the next rankings, though the fact Brazil are currently ahead could see them get the top spot if they win the Copa America on Saturday.

Italy are three places behind England in the official rankings in seventh, coming in behind Portugal and Spain.

A year ago, Italy were 13th in the world rankings but have slowly climbed up the table after going on a 33-match unbeaten run.
