FIFA world rankings as Northern Ireland climb five places to 28

The latest FIFA world rankings have been announced - and it's good news for Northern Ireland .

Michael O'Neill's side have climbed five places to 28th after their Euro 2020 qualifying victories over Estonia and Belarus .

It sees Northern Ireland jump above the Republic of Ireland after Mick McCarthy's side dropped three spots to 32nd despite their spirited draw against Denmark and 2-0 win over Gibraltar.

Northern Ireland's highest ever ranking was back in 2017 when they reached 20th spot during their World Cup qualifying campaign.

Eight competitive games without victory saw O'Neill's side slide down the table, falling to 35th before their historic four Euro 2020 wins on the bounce.
