FIFA have announced that four matches a day will be played during the group stage of the 2022 Qatar World Cup.

The group games will take place over a 12-day period although no venues will be assigned until the groups have been drawn.

Kick-off times will also be picked based on which countries are drawn where so as to suit TV audiences - the time slots for games, local time, will be 1pm, 4pm, 7pm and 10pm.

The World Cup will begin on November 21 at the Al Bayt stadium in Al Khor and conclude at the Lusail Stadium in the country's capital Doha on December 18.

All venues are within a 40 miles radius which helps with preparation for teams and also makes it easy for fans to travel to games.

Kick-off times in the knockout rounds will be 6pm and 10pm, local time, so as to maximise audiences.

France are currently the World Cup holders following their success in Russia two years ago.

The European Championships were set to take place this summer but had to be postponed by a year due to the coronavirus pandemic.

It will now take place in 12 months time meaning European nations will play tournaments in consecutive summers.

UEFA's Nations League tournament, the last of which saw England reach the last four, is likely to affected while there is no set date for the European section of World Cup qualifying.

It is a similar scenario for nations in South America with Argentina and Colombia poised to co-host the Copa America for which Brazil will be the defending champions.
