Fifa set to close gender pay gap after 2019 Women's World Cup

Fifa has agreed to negotiate more prize money for women’s national teams after this summer’s 2019 Women's World Cup, following a successful campaign by Australia.

The World Cup-bound team have called for a closing of the prize money pay gap, demanding a doubling of the current tournament pool from US $30million (£23.5m) to $57m (£45m).

The prize money for last summer’s men’s World Cup was $400m and if the Matildas go all the way in France and win the tournament, they would be paid half of what the Socceroos received at Russia 2018, where they failed to get out of their group.

According to FIFPro, the world players’ union, FIFA have listened and will begin negotiations for new terms over travel and accommodation, as well as medical treatment and financial compensation.
