FIFA president hands Liverpool huge title boost which bodes well for Leeds United

Leeds United have been handed a potential promotion boost after UEFA president Aleksandr Ceferin admitted he "can't see a way" where Liverpool aren't crowned Premier League champions this season.

The Whites are top of the Championship with nine matches left to play although it remains to be seen if the 2019/20 season will be completed due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

With football suspended indefinitely, there are hundreds of questions to be answered about the current football calendar.

For Liverpool, the runaway Premier League leaders are also fearful they could lose out on their first top-flight title for 30 years, despite holding a 25-point lead at the summit.

However, UEFA president Ceferin has admitted it's incredibly unlikely the Reds wouldn't be handed the title regardless of whether the 2019/20 season is finished, with little appetite from football governing bodies to void the season.

"I can't see a way Liverpool could be left without a title," he said.

"If the Premier League resumes play, Liverpool will almost certainly win the title. Theoretically, it's not all over, but practically Liverpool are on the verge of it.

"If by any chance the play will not resume, we still have to find a way to declare final results, to declare champions.

"And again I cannot see, I cannot imagine a scenario, in which the champions would not be Liverpool."

Of course, this bodes well for Leeds United if a precedent is set by handing the Reds the crown.

Marcelo Bielsa's side also hold a stronghold on an automatic promotion place at the top of the Championship table, which boosts their chance of being awarded a spot in the top-flight for next season.
