FIFA launch new service to delight fans amid coronavirus break

FIFA have announced that they are releasing a new service which will let football fans watch full match replays of 30 classic games from the World Cup and Women’s World Cup.

Football fans across the country are currently at a loose end with professional football currently suspended.

Fixtures across the Premier League and the EFL have been suspended until the end of April, but the expectation is that an extension is on the cards, with experts warning the worst of the coronavirus outbreak is yet to come.

A host of European leagues have also been suspended, while UEFA confirmed last Friday that all upcoming Champions League and Europa League games have been postponed until further notice.

“As many are facing isolation as a result of the global COVID-19 pandemic, FIFA has launched a new initiative to help bring football home, namely the release of a video match archive across multiple content channels, until regular football activities are restored across the world,” a statement released on their official website read.

The #WorldCupAtHome campaign will start on Saturday, March 21, with games published on FIFA.com, and the FIFA YouTube channel.

Fans will also have the chance to engage on social media and select their favourite matches to be rebroadcast.

The opening vote gives fans the option to pick one of three matches from the 2014 finals, with the group stage match between Spain and the Netherlands, the quarter final clash of Brazil vs Colombia or the final of Germany vs Argentina.

There are also two options from the Womens’ World Cup in 2019, with either France vs USA in the quarter final or the semi-final of England vs USA.
