FIFA 23 release date and new updates including women’s club football and cross-platform compatibility

For those who’ve grown up with the FIFA game series and associate it with football as much as the Premier League or Soccer Saturday, the release of this year’s game may come with a tinge of sadness.

FIFA 23 is set to be the last instalment in the game’s franchise after a fruitful 30-year partnership between EA Sports and the governing body of world football. Its successor EA Sports FC, which is set for release next year, is likely to still include real teams and player likenesses though, so there’s no need to fret too much.

Here’s when you can grab the new game for yourself and what new features it’s likely to have:

What is the FIFA 23 release date in the UK?

FIFA 23 will be released on Friday, September 30, in the UK – although those who purchase the Ultimate Edition of the game will be able to play it three days earlier. It will be the last collaboration between FIFA and EA Sports on a football simulation game, with the latter already announcing their plans to release EA Sports FC game next year.

FIFA is also said to be exploring options for a football video game with a new partner. It ends 30 years of collaboration on one of the most popular video game franchises in history.

What new features are included in FIFA 23?

Some of the new features to be included in FIFA 23 are:

Women’s club football

FIFA 23 players will be able to play with women’s club sides for the first time in the latest version of the game. While women’s international teams have been playable since 2016, the new EA Sports game will feature teams from the Women’s Super League in England and the Division 1 Féminine in France.

Cross-platform play

Another first in FIFA terms, the latest edition of the game will allow players using different consoles to compete against each other online. Consoles must be of the same generation, however, so PS4 users will be able to play against those with XBox Ones and PS5 players can test their skills against XBox Series X|S competitors.

HyperMotion 2 technology

FIFA 23 promises to up the realism of the game once again, with the latest game in the franchise supporting HyperMotion 2 tech that will use 6,000 unique animations to replicate realistic player movement during the game. This is compared to 4,000 animations in FIFA 22 - but you will need to be using the latest generation of consoles to access it.
