FIFA 20 Team of the Year shortlist confirmed as Premier League stars dominate 55-man list

Premier League giants have enjoyed a stellar 2019, with Chelsea claiming the Europa League last season before Liverpool followed suit by beating Tottenham in the Champions League final.

So it's no surprise that top-flight stars dominate the 55-man shortlist for the FIFA 20 Team of the Year.

Thanks to Liverpool and Chelsea's European success, plus the fact that the English top-flight boasts the biggest stars in world football, 23 players from the Premier League feature on the list.

Ten of those are from Jurgen Klopp's Premier League leaders, including Virgil van Dijk, Sadio Mane, Fabinho, Andy Robertson and Mohamed Salah.

Chelsea , meanwhile, boast one player - French midfielder N'Golo Kante - although Real Madrid's Eden Hazard, the former Blues forward who starred in last season's Europa League win - makes the cut, too.

Other Premier League stars to feature include Manchester City trio Sergio Aguero, Raheem Sterling and Kevin De Bruyne, as well as Tottenham striker Harry Kane.

Turning to the Premier League's rival leagues, La Liga has 10 players in the 55-man shortlist, six make the cut from Bundesliga, seven from Serie A and five from Ligue 1.

Needless to say, Barcelona superstar Lionel Messi - who recently claimed his record sixth Ballon d'Or trophy - and Juventus hero Cristiano Ronaldo are among the big names in this list.
