FIFA 20 release date, UK price and features: What next for EA Sports?

A new football season is upon us, which can only mean one thing - a new version of FIFA will be out soon.

Football fans and gamers alike are eagerly awaiting the chance to claim bragging rights over their mates with FIFA 20 out soon.

EA Sports' hugely popular franchise is a perennial favourite among sports fans worldwide, and its release is often heralded as one of the biggest console releases of the year.

With FIFA 20 set for release, here's all you need to know ahead of its launch.

(EA Sports)

FIFA 20 release date

The FIFA 20 Standard Edition is available worldwide on September 27 and the Champions Edition is available three days before on September 24 via pre-order.

What consoles will FIFA 20 be released on?

The game will be available on Microsoft Windows, PS4, Xbox One and Nintendo Switch.

What's new in FIFA 20?

(EA Sports)

All the kits, stadiums and transfers have been updated, including Champions League and Europa League licences.

However, since Pro Evolution Soccer secured exclusive rights to use Juventus on the game, the Serie A club will be under the name Piemonte Calcio.

For the upcoming release EA Sports have gone back to basics, ironing out issues and making tweaks to the attacking gameplay.

Along with this, there has been a major overhaul of free-kicks and penalties as well the hotly-anticipated Volta Football mode.

The set-piece manual has been overhauled, with players now picking a target using the right analog stick and add curl, dip or extra power when taking a free-kick.

The new tool is designed to give gamers more options from free-kicks, with some complaining that it was too difficult to score directly in the previous game.

FIFA 20 is also encouraging more attacking play in the new game, meaning strikers will be more clinical in front of goal when one-on-one.

But EA Sports will make it harder to execute and score from audacious and risky shots - meaning the days of those 30-yard screamers on the volley could be over.

As part of the changes to the 1v1 battles, the new feature will allow more attacking opportunities to get past your opponent while also giving defenders a wider range of skills to win the ball back.

The defensive Artificial Intelligence has also been scaled back, making it more challenging for players to defend.

An all-new mode called VOLTA football has been introduced for FIFA 20, which is essentially an updated version of the old school classic FIFA Street.

Touching on themes from futsal to street football, it allows fans to combine their love of the five-a-side game with their fondness for FIFA.

With a variety of arenas and environments to play in - a cage in London, the rooftop of a Tokyo skyscraper - it brings together the other side of football that is so rarely seen in the mainstream.

You can play 3v3 with rush goalkeepers or five-a-side and for the street football aficionados, there is a professional futsal mode to explore.

Just like with any FIFA mode, customisation is key, and gamers can do all sorts when building their squad from creating their own avatar to assembling their own squad and playing online in the Volta League.

It promises to be an exciting addition to this year's game.

Updates have also been made to Career Mode, with fully interactive press conferences and player conversation, improved player morale system and a new dynamic player potential system.

FIFA 20: What are the different editions?

There are three versions of the game available to buy - Standard, Champions and Ultimate.

Standard is the base version and comes with up to three FIFA 20 Ultimate Team Rare Gold Packs (one per week for three weeks), special edition FUT kits and the choice of one of five md-version loan icon items for five FUT matches.

The Champions Edition adds up to 12 FIFA 20 Ultimate Team Rare Gold Packs (one per week for 12 weeks) to the package while the Special Edition adds up to 24 rare gold packs (two per week for 12 weeks).

Both the Champions and Special edition versions of the game can also be ordered three days earlier than the Standard release.
