Fifa 20 career mode bug that 'made game unplayable' finally fixed

EA Sports

Fifa 20 has finally fixed a strange bug that players complained made the game unplayable.

The issue, which appeared in the game's career mode, could cause chaos across seasons and led players to give up playing the game.

The bug meant that teams would choose weaker lineups than they would normally be expected to, making them perform unusually badly both against players and against other computer simulations.

Over the course of a season, that would mean that very strong teams could be relegated and bad ones would do very well. It also meant that players would be forced to play against weakened versions of other teams in the league, removing the challenge from the game.

It had been present in Fifa 20 since launch, and players began to complain almost as soon as the game was released.

But it has now been fixed as part of a huge patch that has arrived for Fifa 20, according to the notes sent out by developers EA Sports.

"Sometimes opposing AI controlled teams were fielding weaker lineups in inappropriate situations," the update reads, alongside a host of other changes.

They include updates that fix bugs such as commentators that would say the wrong team had won a match, and tweaks to the gameplay. The patch also improves a variety of visuals.

The update is available for PC now. It will be pushed out to Xbox and PlayStation players "at a later date", EA Sports said.
