Fierce fire engulfs hay trailer as tractor driver races to prevent it spreading

A tractor driver transporting a trailer full of hay through rural Carmarthenshire had a lucky escape when it went up in flames and was destroyed within minutes after a dramatic fire.

The tractor was being driven near the village of Blaenwaun, around eight miles north of the town of St Clears, when the incident happened at around 3pm on Monday.

A fire broke out behind the tractor and soon the trailer and the hay it was carrying were fully ablaze.

Thankfully, the fire was contained within the trailer and did not spread. The driver was able to move the tractor - with the trailer still attached - off the main road and away from any properties. He then managed to remove the tractor so it would not become engulfed in flames.

Nobody was injured in the incident which, as the image from the scene shows, left a huge blaze at the side of the road.

Firefighters arrived at the scene on Monday afternoon and police were also in attendance to close the road, which re-opened shortly before 5pm.
