Field of Dreams game featuring White Sox and Yankees rescheduled for 2021

Canceled in 2020 because of the coronavirus pandemic, the Field of Dreams game between the White Sox and Yankees that was supposed to be played in the cornfields of Iowa in August is now tentatively scheduled for Aug. 12, 2021.

Major League Baseball made the announcement Monday that the event is set for Dyersville, Iowa, and a national broadcast on Fox. Plans are contingent upon the status of public health next summer, and the feasibility of ticket availability will be evaluated in the months ahead.

MLB built a temporary ballpark adjacent to the Field of Dreams movie site with a potential capacity of 8,000. Slated for a Thursday night, it would be the first MLB game played in Iowa.

The Sox and Yankees were in the original plans for the game last Aug. 13, but when a regional schedule for the amended 2020 regular season was put in place, the Yankees of the AL East were out and the Cardinals of the NL Central were in to play the Sox of the AL Central.

The game was scrubbed altogether on Aug. 4.

The Sox are scheduled to host the Yankees the weekend of Aug. 13-15 at Guaranteed Rate Field. Aug. 12 was an open date.

The 1989 Field of Dreams film tells the story of Iowa farmer Ray Kinsella, a husband and father who hears a mysterious voice say, “If you build it, he will come” while tending to his cornfield. The Sox and Yankees are the two favorite teams of Ray’s father.
