Fidder on the Roof set to transfer to Playhouse Theatre in the West End

Migration: Andy Nyman as Tevye in Fiddler on the Roof at Menier Chocolate Factory (Picture: Johan Persson)

Olivier and Tony award winner Trevor Nunn’s revival of Fiddler on the Roof will transfer to the West End this year.

The show, currently running at the Menier Chocolate Factory until March 9, will open on March 27 at the Playhouse Theatre, which will be transformed into an immersive space.

Andy Nyman is set to reprise his role as patriarch Tevye in the classic musical, joined by Judy Kuhn as his wife Golde. The rest of the cast is soon to be announced.

Joseph Stein’s book follows the story of a Jewish milkman, his wife and five daughters living in a small Soviet village. It shows the struggle between tradition and progress, set on the backdrop of pogroms and a rise in antisemitism.

Jerry Bock and Sheldon Harnick’s musical score includes songs such as If I Were A Rich Man, Sunrise Sunset and Matchmaker Matchmaker.

The Standard’s Henry Hitchings gave the show four stars, calling it “thoughtful, warm and intimate”.

Fiddler on the Roof runs at the Playhouse Theatre from March 27-June 15.

Tickets are officially on sale from February 4, but pre-sale tickets with no booking fee will be available from 10am today with GO London.
