Fiat least trusted car company as survey shows Italian firm in last place

Drivers trust Fiat the least, says a study of 21 car brands.

The Italian firm finished bottom when motorists ranked Britain’s best-selling car makes.

Mercedes was top among the 18 to 64-year-olds asked about five key factors on whether or not to buy new and used cars.

The 2183 drivers ranked the brands according to their reliability and the firms’integrity, transparency, genuineness and social conscience.

Among those quizzed by price comparison site CarGurus were drivers who have just bought or will buy a car in the next six months.

Audi, Ford, Toyota and Volvo completed the top five for trustworthiness.

Fiat was just behind French rival Peugeot.

CarGurus said Fiat has “some work to do” to build trust among car buyers but younger ones have a more positive attitude to the brand.

Mercedes performed well across all the trust factors, especially reliability, said CarGurus spokesman Chris Knapman.

He added: “Car buyers didn’t express a distrust in any of the 21 car brands included in the index. Rather, the overall levels of trust recorded for these brands were lower than for others.”

Fiat declined to comment.
