DETROIT _ Jeep on Monday night revealed that an overhauled Jeep Compass will replace the brand's current Compass model as well as its Patriot SUV. The auto brand made the announcement during an event at its plant in Pernambuco, Brazil, and released three images of the vehicle.
The new vehicle looks more aerodynamic than the outgoing Compass and Patriot and appears to have taken styling cues from the popular Grand Cherokee and Cherokee models.
The new compass is part of Jeep's global growth strategy. The brand's global sales have increased more than 140 percent since 2008, when it sold about 500,000 vehicles worldwide.
"This Jeep represents the heart of the global SUV market right now," said Karl Brauer, senior director of content for Cox Automotive. "Small SUVs are selling well and they are selling well globally. This is an extremely important vehicle that will help to form the backbone of Jeep's global presence for the foreseeable future."
Fiat Chrysler Automobiles said it will sell the Compass with 17 different fuel-efficient engine and transmission options to consumers in more than 100 countries around the world. The automaker also said the new Compass will be offered with Jeep's legendary all-wheel-drive, off-road capability.
