Fianna Fail TD Marc MacSharry has been left annoyed as a number of benches at Strandhill in Sligo appear to have been cordoned off.
Mr MacSharry, the TD for Sligo-Leitrim, uploaded a picture of the scene to his Twitter account earlier this afternoon.
The benches are at the scenic seaside spot of Strandhill.
While there are hundreds of replies decrying the action, many have pointed out that the benches could simply be being varnished or painted.
One user said: "Looks like they've been painted...but go ahead and have a tantrum first" with a second adding "Marc, I think they just painted them and are leaving them to dry."
This was the case - as Sligo County Councillor Declan Bree confirmed to the Irish Mirror, saying: “More baloney – if Deputy MacSharry had checked with the Council he would know that the benches are being treated today and will be back in use tomorrow.”
A couple of people also made the point to MacSharry voted in legislation last night which extended the emergency powers introduced during the Covid-19 pandemic.
The legislation allows restrictions on travel and social gatherings to be reimposed without a further Dáil vote until at least November.
The vote passed all stages in the Dáil by 73 votes to 68.
