FFC 40’s Max Rohskopf has a plan: A handful more wins, then UFC in a year

LAS VEGAS – It took some work, but Max Rohskopf has another fight Thursday night.

The lightweight prospect, who trains at Xtreme Couture, said he had to go through multiple turn-downs in order to get a fight for Final Fight Championship 40 in Las Vegas. But he finally got an opponent in the form of the equally hungry Zach Zane.

Rohskopf (3-0) and Zane (13-8) fight in a 160-pound catchweight fight at the event, which takes place at the Fight Dome.

“It was kind of crazy how I got the Zach Zane fight,” Rohskopf told MMA Junkie in the middle of a sauna session while cutting weight. “There were guys (who were) 11-5 from (Team) Alpha Male (who turned us down). A guy who just fought Tyson Griffin, Jordan Bailey, turned it down. Joe Gianetti called me out on Twitter, then took it back as soon as they offered it to him. We’ve been getting a lot of fights turned down.

“We just heard some kid named Zach Zane from Hawaii was wanting to fight anyone. So short notice, he was licensed to fight already because he just fought in (Dana White’s) Contender Series. … He’s a ’45er and wanted to fight at ’60, so it’s five less pounds I’ve gotta cut.”

Rohskopf said he wants to take a path similar to the one the UFC’s Deron Winn took – have a perfect record, a handful of wins, and just head right to the UFC.

As for a potential pitstop along the way to try to fight his way in through Dana White’s Contender Series? No thanks.

“Hopefully I’m not on the Contender Series by next summer – I want to be in the UFC by then,” Rohskopf said. “I’d like to be 5-0, 6-0 by then. I think I can be like Deron Winn, get signed at 5-0, 6-0. That’s pretty much the plan.”
