Police arrested the 22-year-old man after a pyrotechnic was raised in the middle of George Square this afternoon.

Superintendent Craig Smith, the officer in charge of the policing operation ahead of the game said: “I can confirm that a 22-year-old man has been arrested after a flare was set off in George Square this afternoon (Thursday, September 19).

"He has also been arrested in connection with drugs offences.

"My message to all supporters is don’t attempt to bring pyrotechnics, such as flares or smoke bombs into the stadium or set off in the city. It is irresponsible. They are illegal and dangerous and we will robustly enforce legislation.”

A large police presence was deployed to the city centre to escort hundreds of Feyenoord fans to Ibrox.

Officers have been shifting fans from George Square to the south-west of the city around two hours before the side kick-off against Rangers tonight.
