Feyenoord defender claims he turned down Liverpool transfer offer

Feyenoord defender Ramon Hendriks has revealed that he turned down Liverpool's advances to continue his development in the Netherlands - but he wouldn't say 'no' again.

The 19-year-old, who has yet to make his first-team debut for the Eredivisie club, is currently on loan at NAC Breda having made the temporary switch during the January transfer window.

It's a path of a progression that his compatriot, Sepp van den Berg, is currently experiencing in this country with Preston. But had things turned out differently, they could have been teammates in the Liverpool academy system.

Instead, though, when the Premier League giants reportedly came calling in 2017, Hendriks instead opted to remain in Holland with Feyenoord after his departure from FC Dordrecht.

Recalling that difficult decision, Hendriks said: "It was a special time for me anyway. I was able to go to Ajax, PSV, Feyenoord, Liverpool and a few other clubs. Very big names for a 15-year-old from Dordrecht.

"Feyenoord just suits me best as a person. It was very difficult to say 'no' to Liverpool. I thought about the adventure, but decided to choose a relatively surer path."

Hendriks added: "I think the toughness of the Premier League would suit me and Liverpool would, of course, be my preference. I don't think I would say 'no' again if they ever come forward for me. For now, I first dream of a full stadium at NAC."
