Feud between Green and Nurkic escalates on social media

Phoenix Suns forward Kevin Durant (35) celebrates his dunk against the Milwaukee Bucks with center Jusuf Nurkic (20) during the second half of an NBA basketball game Tuesday, Feb. 6, 2024, in Phoenix.

The ongoing feud between Golden State Warriors forward Draymond Green and Phoenix Suns center Jusuf Nurkic has taken a new turn, with the players engaging in a heated exchange on social media. Following the Warriors' victory over the Suns thanks to Stephen Curry's game-winning 3-pointer, Green took to Twitter to label Nurkic a '300-pound softy.'

This animosity traces back to a previous incident in December where Green struck Nurkic in the head, resulting in a suspension for the Warriors' player. The two faced each other for the first time since then on Saturday night, exchanging verbal jabs throughout the game. Curry's clutch shot further ignited the tension between the players.

In an interview after the game, Nurkic expressed his disappointment in Green, implying that the Warriors' player had not learned from his past actions and may harm someone else in the future. 'He doesn't deserve a chance,' Nurkic added, clearly frustrated with Green's behavior.

Green fired back during his podcast, criticizing Nurkic's basketball skills despite his size. He pointed out the lack of offensive proficiency displayed by the 7-foot center, particularly his inability to score against Curry in the post. Green also suggested that Nurkic exaggerated the impact of the December incident, resulting in a lengthier suspension for Green.

Not one to back down, Nurkic responded to Green's remarks on Twitter, urging him to focus on his therapy sessions and not spend too much time on his podcast. Green quickly countered, encouraging Nurkic to listen to his podcast where he discusses the center's inability to close out games.

Unfortunately for fans hoping to witness a continuation of this heated rivalry on the court, the two teams will not face each other again during the regular season.

Feuds between players are not uncommon in professional sports, especially in highly competitive environments like the NBA. While social media exchanges offer a platform for players to voice their opinions, it is essential for athletes to maintain professionalism and mutual respect, serving as role models for aspiring athletes.

As NBA fans eagerly follow the developments in this ongoing feud, it remains to be seen whether these players will be able to bury the hatchet and move forward or if their animosity will persist. Until then, the basketball world waits for the next chapter in the Green-Nurkic saga.
