Would you like to see hip-hop star Fetty Wap perform Trap Queen at Nancy Reagan’s funeral? If so, a new petition has emerged that aims to make it happen.

The former first lady and wife of President Ronald Reagan died on Sunday, aged 94. According to the online petition on Change.org, she now deserves a Wap serenade because she was “married to the money and introduced America to the stove”. Trap Queen is Wap’s tribute to a girlfriend and partner-in-crime, praising her skill at making money and “cooking pies”.

Is the petition serious? Well, not entirely: Fetty Wap, AKA Willie Maxwell II, is highly unlikely to end up performing at the funeral just because some people signed a petition. But the petition is serving to make a political point, calling out Nancy’s “diabolical” anti-drugs campaigning. It says: “While her husband, Ronald Reagan, was linking up with Papi to flood the streets with narcotics, Nancy was on TV telling kids to ‘Say No to Drugs.’ Her infamous ‘anti-drug’ phrase encouraged strict laws on drug possession that led to a school-to-prison pipeline we’re still dealing with now.”

It continues: “Blacks and Latinos went to jail in droves for possessing drugs her husband gave them. It was an incredible sleight of hand that would make any wannabe Trap Queen hide in shame for her inability to be as diabolical as Nancy.”

The claims made are a reference to conspiracy theories that have long implicated the CIA’s involvement in Contra cocaine trafficking under Reagan’s presidency. It is unknown whether or not Wap is actually free to play at the funeral, or whether, should the petition succeed, he would include backing dancers and a light show.
