Festivities over, Panchkula municipal corporation to crack down on encroachments

PANCHKULA: Now that the festive season is over, the municipal corporation is planning to start the antiencroachment drive in the city. Vendors on the roads will be shifted to vending zones.

Mayor Kulbhushan Goyal assured that development in the city would not be affected and the issue of encroachments, which was affecting the beauty of the city, would be resolved, he said.

He said that special teams carrying out anti-encroachment drives in the city before the festive season would resume operations. Maximum vendors who were issued licenses had started sitting at their designated sites in vending zones. The mayor said that remaining vendors had been asked to sit at their designated places in the vending zones, failing which their licenses would be cancelled.

Residents welfare association members said that the teams remove the encroachment, but vendors return a day or two after the drive. They said the mass anti-encroachment drive would not have any purpose till a permanent solution was found.

The MC conducted an extensive anti-encroachment drive across the district but it was stopped during the festival season.

Apart from this, the mayor said that work of nonmotorised road track had been completed, the issue of streetlights, grills and curve channels in sectors-7/18,17/18 had been completed. Ten city buses have started on different routes and grass has been grown along city roads.
