Festive lights spotted going up at Glasgow's George Square

Winter is coming, the nights are fair drawing in and we're itching to put the heating on already.

But Glasgow City Council are working hard to bring some some much-needed sparkle to the city centre as the dark nights descend.

Taking to Facebook, the council shared a picture of the festive lights going up in George Square today (Monday).

Workers were spotted stringing up lights, bringing us a glimmer of hope that Glasgow will be sparkling in no time.

While many Facebook users rejoiced in the news, some grinches began to grumble that Christmas had arrived too early.

In response, the council replied: "Santa Claus is coming to town.

"Yes it is but an early start is needed as it does take time to get all the lights up, so they look amazing for Christmas."

Take that Scrooge! Glasgow, we can't to see you twinkle once again.
