Festive fun for wee ones as they take part in Jingle Bell Fun Run

Barshaw Park was alive with the sound of jingle bells on Sunday as the 17th Active Communities Jingle Bell fun run took place.

Everyone looked the part with lots of festive costumes including Santas, reindeer, elves and lots of Christmas jumpers.

The fun event in Barshaw Park was back in-person after last year’s virtual race with hundreds of runners taking part.

There were two races, a 3k at 11am which was open to those aged eight and over and a 1k at 12noon which was open to all ages.

On the day 450 people came along to enjoy the festive fun on a beautiful sunny winter day.

Gill Mackay from Active Communities said: “Our Jingle Bell fun run was a huge success.

“The weather was ideal and there were lots of happy smiling faces!

“We had spot prizes for the best costumes, with everyone making a huge effort on the day to dress in festive costumes and accessories.”

Everyone received a festive Christmas tree medal for finishing their race. There was free face-painting, entrants were invited to enjoy a free train ride on the miniature railway, Friends of Barshaw Park had a stall selling wreaths and crafts, while stilt walkers from The Big Top Glasgow entertained the crowds.

The first boy round the 1k was Murray Lamont in a time of 3.47m and the first girl was Alba Walker in a time of 5.07m.
