Festive drive-in cinema experience showing Christmas movies coming to Manchester

An immersive drive through cinema screening Christmas movies is parking up in Manchester this festive season.

From the organisers of Scare City, Park N Party are hosting their annual Christmas City event at the Soccer Dome on Trafford Way between November 25- January 2.

The event features the UK’s largest outdoor cinema screen, and at 150 square metres it is perfect for attendees to pull up and watch a variety of festive films.

As it is an immersive experience, you can expect a collection of Christmas characters including elves making an appearance during the performance.

Screenings are categorised as ‘naughty’ or ‘nice’- with ‘nice’ time slots earlier on in the day catering towards family-friendly films such as The Polar Express or Elf, with actors behaving themselves.

‘Naughty’ screenings happen later in the evening, with films such as Bad Santa, Die Hard and The Holiday aimed at older audiences- and the actors will certainly be less behaved too.

In a statement on their website, the organisers said: “It’s that time of year again – the snow-capped delight of Christmas City is back and coming to a drive-in cinema near you.

“Christmas City 2021 is serving up a sleigh full of festive delights and casting Santa’s magic over Trafford’s iconic Soccer Dome this Christmas season.

“We are mesmerising visitors with a merry and bright experience complete with real life Santa’s elves, interactive seasonal experiences, your favourite classic Christmas movies and much more.

“Christmas City is an immersive event that will enchant and warm the hearts of all who enter for a Christmas like no other.”

Attendees can also enjoy driving through a candy cane forest, a festive mail room so they can drop off their Christmas list to Santa, and even a dedicated karaoke section with plenty of seasonal songs ready to sing along to, before parking up at the outdoor cinema.

You can venture out of your car to wander around the immersive Christmas village, and pay a visit to one of the food and drink stalls to load up on snacks before the film starts.

A previous guest described the event as a ‘fantastic festive experience’.

She said: “We went to see The Holiday last night, all the entertainment puts a smile on your face and makes it feel like it’s actually Christmas!

“With it being a naughty show, they were very cheeky, which was amusing. There are food stands with burgers, hot dogs, hot chocolates and crepes too."

Another added: "This event is fantastic. You can clearly see the time, effort and Christmas cheer that has been put into it. The staff are amazing, with their extra special touches to make all children feel festive. Highly recommend, we all loved our evening out!"

Tickets costing £45 per vehicle but are selling fast, so organisers recommend you book well in advance.

Christmas City will be taking place between November 25- January 2 at Fives Soccer Centre Trafford, Trafford Way, Trafford Park, Stretford, M17 8DD.
