Premier League clubs will meet this afternoon to discuss the Covid-19 fixture disruption, with a number of managers expressing concerns about the situation over the weekend.

At a special shareholders’ meeting at 1pm GMT on Monday, all 20 clubs will discuss whether to postpone a round of fixtures as a circuit breaker to help get Covid outbreaks under control and ease the pressure on squads.

Six of this weekend’s 10 matches were postponed, but the Premier League has said it plans to continue with the current schedule “where safely possible”.

But Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp yesterday said it is has become impossible for the top-flight to continue with its current fixture list, while Chelsea’s Thomas Tuchel has accused the Premier League of ignoring players’ safety after the Blues’ request to postpone Sunday's match against Wolves was rejected.

The Premier League is scheduled to return to action with a full round of games across Boxing Day and December 27, with another round across December 28, 29 and 30.

Discussions could centre on whether to pause one or both rounds, with clubs thought to be divided.
