East Kilbride revellers will be full of festive cheer this year as the town's Christmas lights switch-on returns.
South Lanarkshire Council this week gave the go-ahead for light up events across the region, having being cancelled due to the pandemic last year.
The popular annual event will be held on the cobbled streets of East Kilbride Village at 5pm on Sunday, November 21.
Hosted by Clyde 1's Gina McKie, there will be free entertainment on the night including a traditional brass band and New Orleans jazz band playing carols and Christmas classics, children’s rides and walkabout characters such as Elf on the Shelf and Christmas Minions and, of course, crowds of excited families can expect the arrival of Santa.
There is even guaranteed snow on the night, as the switching on of the lights trigger a fall of flakes from above.
However, there will be no traditional Christmas market in East Kilbride this year.
Chair of the council’s Community and Enterprise Resources Committee, Councillor John Anderson, said: “We are delighted to be able to welcome back the Christmas light switch-on events to towns across South Lanarkshire.
"We appreciate the last year and a half has been a difficult time for everyone and we look forward to being able to spread some festive cheer.
“We would ask that people are aware of the current public health guidance if they are attending any events, so please wear a face mask and keep a safe distance from other people as much as possible.”
Elsewhere in South Lanarkshire, festive light switch-on's will take place in Hamilton and Lanark (Saturday, November 20), Rutherglen (Saturday, November 27, Cambuslang (Sunday, November 28) and Carluke (Saturday, December 4).
