Fertility technology firm Concepta 'gives birth' to new Welsh HQ

Wales has a new headquartered firm on London's Alternative Investment Market.

Concepta, which has developed the UK’s most accurate fertility tracker and pregnancy self-testing system, has moved its corporate HQ to the Maltings office in scheme Cardiff from Colworth in Bedfordshire.

The move will initially see a team of six in Cardiff, but that is expected to grow.

Concepta said the move to the capital will achieve a 50% reduction in head office overheads, with savings redeployed into commercial activities and R&D investment.

The business has also outsourced manufacturing to Abingdon Health in Doncaster.

The business is headed by chief executive Penny McCormick, who joined in November 2019. She was previously managing director of Crumlin-based  BBI Healthcare and before that group head of marketing at BBI Group.

The new HQ comes as Concepta has relaunched its newly branded home-use personalised fertility tracking and pregnancy self-testing system MYLO (previously myLotus).

Ms McCormick said: "The launch of the MYLO brand and our new marketing campaign is fitting for our proven and reliable technology, and it’s been essential for us to develop a contemporary brand with longevity that can carry our ambitious strategy and future portfolio development.

"We are now moving towards 5,000 App downloads and aim to invigorate awareness of our product and help inform those who are currently considering conceiving or who are already on that journey.

“As part of our marketing efforts we will invest in customer acquisition and seek to take a leading role in influencing ability to conceive in the pre-IVF space.

"We will continue to support women and couples through their fertility pathway, whilst developing a strategy that adds customer value and support, and gives them the chance to be proactive in their journey towards natural conception."

Moreover, Chepstow-based medical devices firm Creo Medical, which is also listed on AIM ha a new has appointed David Woods as chief commercial officer, having previously been a non-executive director.

He will take up his new role with Creo, which is focused on the emerging field of surgical endoscopy, on August 1st.

Mr Woods has extensive experience in the med-tech sector and joins the company in his new full-time executive role based in the USA, having previously been the president and chief executive of Pentax Americas.

Mr Woods experience in the medical device market encompasses gastroenterology, general and orthopaedic surgery, pulmonology and ear nose and throat.

Creo said his appointment comes as it moves from early clinical adoption to global commercialisation expansion. It added: “David will provide leadership and strategic direction for Creo’s Group commercial divisions overseeing all strategic global commercial activities, which are key to Creo’s growth.”
