KANCHANABURI: The management of a fertiliser plant that has been emitting foul odours have been ordered to fix the problem within 30 days, following complaints by residents in Tha Maka district.
About 20 residents of tambon Phrathaen on Tuesday gathered outside the factory operated by Kaset Thai Organic Fertiliser Co on Phanom Thuan-Kamphaeng Saen Road. They complained of strong odours from the factory.
Senior deputy district chief Yongyuth Sunophak and Chalermchai Saentip, an engineer from the provincial industry office, led a team to inspected the factory.
Worakul Sakulwattana, a factory executive, and Chinda Pinchaikul, an account manager, showed them around the premises.
During the inspection they found a huge pile of sludge, about 1,000 tonnes of it, from waste treatment processes. Trucks were also seen dumping waste into compost pits, which gave off a strong unpleasant smell.
Mr Chalermchai asked the factory management to solve the smell problem within 30 days. Ms Chinda said the factory was ready to cooperate.
