Ferrari Has a New Test Track, Which Means It Will Be Harder to Spy on Future Models

The days of catching Ferrari's next hot model testing in public might be over. Ferrari just completed a new test track called e-Vortex. It's a 1.17-mile course adjacent to Fiorano that will give Ferrari the ability to perform "precise and repeatable testing." The automaker took less than four months to build it.

The track features a 0.37-mile main straight, two banked curves, and tighter handling curves, with lanes measuring 19.7 to 45.9 feet in width. It also features special road surfaces for evaluating NVH, comfort, and durability.

Ferrari says the new track, which features a 10,763-square-foot workshop, will allow the company to transfer testing activities from the road to the track. It'll reduce traffic in the surrounding area and give the automaker even more privacy. It might be harder than ever for curious eyes to get a glimpse of Ferrari's next supercar.

It'll also allow the company to perform "more objective" performance tests and help identify any potential issues faster. Ferrari says the track "represents a fundamental step forward in improving the functional testing of sports cars fresh off the production line."

The e-Vortex may not have the charm of the 50-plus-year-old Fiorano, but it's a new Ferrari facility that will be integral to the future development of its models. It's just sad we might not see as many on the road, giving the public a preview of what's to come from the company, regardless of how hard it tries to hide them.
