Ferran Torres gives his verdict on Antoine Griezmann amid Man City transfer speculation

Ferran Torres has had his say on the stories linking Antoine Griezmann with a move to the Etihad this summer.

With financial turmoil engulfing Barcelona, the Catalan club are reportedly eager to sell Griezmann with reports claiming Manchester City could target the French World Cup winner this summer.

Speaking to Spanish outlet Marca, City's young attacker Ferran Torres gave his verdict on the forward with a potential move for Griezmann on the cards.

“He’s a great player,” Torres declared.

“Obviously, he’s at Barça; let’s see what can happen. I don’t know if [Pep] Guardiola has spoken to him.

“City are one of the best teams in the world, and they want to have the best players to win everything. If he comes, fine; if not, we’ll keep working."

Manchester City are understood to be keen on recruiting a forward this summer following the departure of Sergio Aguero. The club has also been linked with a sensational move for Harry Kane, with reports suggesting a major £100m bid has been made by the Eastlands outfit.

Considering Barcelona's financial troubles, Griezmann could offer a cheaper alternative in order to fill the void in City's squad, although City have told the club they are not interested in a deal at this moment.

The 30-year-old looked back to his best last season after a disappointing first campaign at the Nou Camp, registering 20 goals 13 assists in a fruitful campaign that saw La Blaugrana win the Copa del Rey.

The Frenchman would be well suited to the false nine role under Guardiola. However, as he is now in his thirties City are reluctant to fork out a massive sum for the Barcelona forward.

Considering how much Ferran Torres impressed at times last season, the 2021/22 campaign may see Guardiola place even more trust in the Spanish international, who looked full of confidence at Euro 2020.
