Ferran Torres asked if Man City hat-trick puts him in contention for Champions League final start

Ferran Torres hopes his brilliant hat-trick against Newcastle will put him in contention to feature in Manchester City's Champions League final later this month.

Torres was brought in for City, who secured the Premier League title this week, and was a constant threat all night against Newcastle, twice going close before flicking in a sensational goal from Ilkay Gundogan's free kick in the first half.

After Newcastle went ahead for a second time, Torres hit a well-taken quickfire double to put City back in front and seal his hat-trick in a 4-3 win.

Reflecting on his performance, Torres was asked if playing through the middle as he did at Newcastle is where he sees his future role at City.

Laughing, he said: "I've never played as a number nine before, I feel comfortable there and I played false nine today and I scored a hat-trick so why not.

"My first position is right wing but I learn this year how to play the three positions upfront so I learn to play in all of them."

Should Torres get a spot in the Champions League final team? Tell us in the comments here.

And pressed on whether he thinks his hat-trick will put him in contention to feature in the Champions League final, Torres answered: "I always try to take advantage of any opportunity the manager gives me. The hat-trick helps the team so I'm working hard to make the final.

"I try to improve day by day, try to learn from my teammates, my manager. I score hat-trick with Spain vs Germany, I try to keep improving for the final."
